When SMI in 1988 – four years after its foundation – specialized on the development and production of vacuum handling and transport techniques, this was still in the shoes of children. The high demand in handling technology has been unbroken since 1988.

Firstly in order to optimize working processes and make them more efficient. Secondly, as handling processes spare the physical effort of the employees and also help to reduce cases of illness.

SMI's head quarter is placed in Wetter (Ruhr), North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 1996 all the sections of production and marketing are placed here under one roof.

About uns since 1984

1984: Founding of the company from an engineering office for process and conveying-technical applications.

1988: SMI specialises in the development and production of vacuum lifting and transport technology. The increasing demand for handling equipment for production and logistics leads to the development of various product lines and individual solutions for product handling.

1996: Administration and production brought together at the new company headquarters located next to the A1 Motorway. Engineering and development as well as the central service and assembly planning departments are also located here.

Seit 1998: An increasing internationalisation of business activity has taken place with representation located within and outside of Europe.

2000: The 'smilift' and 'smigrip' product names are protected by trademark.

2009: Increasing internationalization of sales activities.
